Melissa Lubars is a NYC-based soprano and versatile performer who collaborates on creative, multifaceted projects, including original music such as her EP Ourglass. She made her Off-Broadway debut as Yochebed in the U.S. premiere of The Ten Commandments, The Musical, and has since appeared Off-Broadway in Ramaavan: A Musical as Surpanakha. She also served as the Queen of Hearts understudy in Mad Hatter The Musical at Place des Arts.
An advocate for new works, Melissa has originated roles in two world premiere operas at the Vienna Summer Music Festival: Annabel in Mondo Novo by Paul Richards and Pluto in Pluto by Michael Polo. Additional operatic credits include Emmie (Albert Herring), Berta (The Merry Widow), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus).
Her theatrical credits include performances at Birdland Jazz Club (Susie Mosher’s The Lineup), as well as roles such as Glinda/Auntie Em (The Wizard of Oz), Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), and Gabbi/Bobbi (City of Angels).
Melissa has recorded for film soundtracks including The Faithful and There’s Something About John, and is a second place winner of both the VSMF Vocal Competition and the New York Lyric Opera Theatre’s National Competition.
Additionally, Melissa is a sought-after liturgical singer, performing for Sunday services and Jewish High Holidays throughout the Greater New York area, as well as weddings and other social events with her partner and pianist, Matt Malanowski. She is also a performing artist with Music For All Seasons, sharing live music with underserved communities and using performance as a tool for connection and healing.
In addition to performing, Melissa runs a thriving private voice studio, working with singers of all ages. Passionate about expression, diction, and technique, she aims to inspire others to reach their highest potential and musical goals. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Performance from Manhattan School of Music.
